Planning helped me a lot. I first learned about the basics of painting which are color mixing, and brush technique. Afterwards, I experimented with different silhouettes of deserts. I at first failed, and kept getting better. Here are the steps...
The first thing I learned is to use two different brushes. My black and orange mixed and the sky looks bad now.
At this one, the sky looks pretty good, but the cactuses are not straight. I added "Arizona" too.
In this one, I added a sun, a bird, and different color sky. This one is sloppy, as it is a draft, but it is coming along.
I tried to make the sky look blue and orange, but it did not turn over well. The cactuses look pretty good here. I felt like I was ready for my final.
I like my final product, but I wish the writing was more even, and thinner. I like the sky color.
2. What new skills did you learn or develop as part of this unit?
I learned to plan no matter what. No matter how much you want to get started on canvas, you have to plan. I came up with some very good ideas, and also had some great tips, from planning. I also learned brush techniques, and layering. You sometimes have to use multiple layers and multiple colors for it to look right. I also learned how to mix colors properly.
3. What media from Unit 1 were you most successful with? Why?
The type of art I was so successful at was mainly drawing. I enjoyed painting more, but I was better at drawing more. Painting is more fun because of all of the materials and colors involved, but drawing is more linear.

I love the look of these paintings, along with the value, and detail.
Overall, I had a good time in this unit, and was happy that it was different than the first few weeks last semester.
